How to Host a Holiday Craft Night (Kids, Adults or Both)
Host a cozy holiday craft night: easy ornament, gift tag and garland stations, a simple supply list, timing tips and printable craft templates.
A craft night is one of the easiest holiday get-togethers to host. Nobody expects a fancy dinner, everyone goes home with something they made, and the kids stay busy for a solid two hours.
Pick 3 craft stations
More than three gets messy. Fewer and people run out of things to do. Good options:
- Ornament station: plain glass or paper ornaments, paint pens, glitter, ribbon.
- Gift tag station: kraft paper tags, stamps, markers, twine. People make tags for their own gifts.
- Garland station: wooden beads, paper snowflakes or popcorn and cranberries on string.
For little kids, swap one station for coloring pages or salt dough ornaments (flour, salt, water, bake at 250°F for 2 hours).
Supply list
- Table covers (kraft paper rolls work great and you can doodle on them)
- Scissors, glue sticks, tape, hole punch
- Paint pens and markers
- Twine and ribbon
- Paper plates for drying wet projects
- Ziplock bags with name labels so everyone's crafts get home
Timing that works
- First 15 minutes: snacks and drinks while people arrive
- Next 60–90 minutes: stations open, people move at their own pace
- Last 20 minutes: cleanup, then a quick "show what you made" round
Make it feel like a party
- Signs for each station so nobody asks what to do
- A simple invitation with the date, time and "wear clothes you can get glitter on"
- Hot cocoa bar with marshmallows and candy canes
- A holiday playlist
